Welcome to Miss Maddie

Things didn't work out the way I hoped when we visited the Humane Society Wednesday. We weren't even in the cat room for 30 seconds when Angel was gushing over this little one. I did get a quick glimpse of Sabrina (the black one I wanted to look at) but she was hiding in a cave & barely acknowledged us.

Madison was going crazy, rubbing against her cage and rubbing her head on Angel's fingers, etc. So we asked if we could see her. I had to fill out a page & a half questionnaire, show my drivers license and everything, just to even visit with her!! We went in the little room and the HS volunteer brought her in and set her on the floor. I reached my hand down and Maddie came right over to me. I picked her up and she snuggled right against me. SOLD.

I am such a sucker.

I mean, look at that face!!!!

She's in the process of getting over a minor eye infection, which accounts for the winky face. I have to put drops in her eye thru the weekend and she should be better.

Since she's spayed, declawed, (mostly) healthy and even microchipped, we could bring her right home. I love that stubby tail! She carries it straight and angled up over her back. And the one orange toe on her back foot is hilarious!

Wasssup?
She was very busy when we let her out of the carrier. Explored the entire house, even Jack's crate. She completely ignored Chester (who is NOT happy about this turn of events!!) and she is not particularly thrilled with Jack, either. I don't think she's ever been around dogs. The plan tonight is to hold her (risking life & limb) and call him over so he can sniff his fill, since that's all he wants to do. Once he gets to "meet" her, he'll be fine and leave her alone.

Yesterday when we got up we couldn't find her. We were going to put her in our bedroom and keep the boys out. No idea where she was! It took me 45 minutes after I got home from work yesterday to find her hiding spot under the kitchen table, behind a tote and some paper towel rolls.

Last night she was out exploring. Angel said she woke up to whiskers on her face at 4 am. And when I got up, she was peeking around the corner into our room, but didn't come in thanks to Chester hissing at her.

I'm hoping she comes out to visit when we're in the living room watching the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics tonight!

Friend Makin' Monday - Seven

Happy Monday!!

Does anyone else feel that being around family is a trial?  However did I survive my childhood with all of us in one house?  I just feel like I really have to watch what I say & do around them.  I told Randy that if I ever get to be a perfect McJudgey like certain other people, he's more than welcome to smack some sense into me.

Yesterday was Mom's birthday so we all went to Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill.  Luckily we didn't have to listen to Mom sing Red Solo Cup, only Laurie.  It was actually OK for the most part.  I'm not overly impressed with the menu there but Mom wanted to go.  And we will go back in September for Angel's birthday, too.

My eating was totally off the wagon this past week.  I had a cobb salad with honey mustard dressing from Toby Keith's.  Stuffed pancakes from a little diner on Saturday morning.  Bacon & scrambled eggs inside 2 huge pancakes.  It was interesting.  One of those things that I wanted to try, but won't order it regularly.  Wednesday was Randy's birthday and he got a free order of cheesy fries from Texas Roadhouse - it was the first time I was not able to finish my 6 ounce sirloin & grilled shrimp & steamed veggies.  Ate entirely too many fries!

Ugh.  And now I have to go grocery shopping tonight since I believe the extent of the fresh fruit in my house is 1 sad-looking, overripe pear.

So back to our regularly scheduled Monday!

Friend Makin’ Mondays
  1. What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?  I like to go for a walk around the park near our house.  There is a heron rookery there and lots of ponds to see wildlife & such at.
  2. What is your favorite color? I like most all colors.  As for clothing? I've recently started wearing more reds.
  3. Have you ever been to Europe? Nope.  Wait?  Does the Persian Gulf count?   I've been to cool places like Hong Kong (when it was still British), Singapore, then some quality time in the Gulf.
  4. Do you wear glasses or contacts? yes.  I prefer to wear contacts when I'm out & about since my eyes are sensitive to sunlight and need to wear sunglasses.  But bumming around the house, I have no problem wearing my glasses.
  5. How often do you brush your teeth? twice a day without fail.  I can't sleep when my teeth feel nasty and it helps me to wake up in the morning.  And I am never without my floss!  It makes me crazy when food gets stuck between  my teeth!
  6. Share a guilty pleasure. Tim Horton's iced coffee with french vanilla and milk.  The manager at our local store (who I swear is Tim Horton reincarnated) knows us and our usual orders - LOL!  I went thru the drivethru last week and he knew it was me by how I get my coffee!
  7. What are you most proud of accomplishing this week?  Hmm.  It wasn't a particularly exciting week.  I was very happy to find a certain item for my Secret Santa (Christmas in July gift exchange - yup!) at the Salvation Army.  Guess that counts!
Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions. Don’t forget to link up in the comments!

Friend Makin' Monday - Finish the Sentence

Where did the weekend go?

Let me see - Friday night the hubby was setting up / installing radio stuff in preparation for the Mid-Michigan MS 150 bike ride (that he worked at all weekend), so the girl and I stayed home and didn't do a whole lot.  We made french bread pizzas for dinner and caught up on watching RuPaul's Drag U (I love RuPaul's shows!!!)  Saturday we did piddly stuff here & there and went to my sister's to get dressed before car-pooling to my cousin's wedding.
Apparently the Lisa's are the bad guys -
that's me in front and my niece Lisa standing, wearing black hats.

Note to anyone planning a wedding....even if you know the guy who DJs - make sure he has good equipment and overall is a decent DJ - and NO KARAOKE !!!!  I could see the bride & groom singing a song to each other, since they enjoy doing karaoke, but that's about it. There was a lot of technical issues, long pauses between songs, restarting songs multiple times, couldn't hear anyone who talked on the mic, stopping the Dollar Dance to let a kid (who couldn't read fast enough to follow the lyric screen) sing while the bridal party stood around on the dance floor and talked.  We left around 11:30 and she still hadn't done the bouquet toss.  At least we did get to do some dancing.  I honestly hope Janet & Steve were happy (since they're all that mattered), but I personally would have been pissed.

Anyway... we went back to Laurie's house and finally went to bed around 1:30. We were on air mattresses in the basement, so my Beagle woke me up around 7 am (a slimy wet dog nose sniffing in the ear is NOT a gentle way to wake up and once I giggled, there was no snooze button!!) I took him outside and her horses saw me from the barn and announced loudly that they were ready for breakfast.  So I had to take care of them.  Then it was pointless to go back to bed after that so I sat out on the deck and enjoyed the still-cool breeze until everyone else got up.

We hung out at Laurie's til mid-afternoon, helping with farm stuff (cleaning stall, hauling hay bales, etc) then went home to shower!

She hasn't asked for help with her air conditioner so she's been sleeping in the basement in this crazy heat we've been having!  So I told her I was coming back tonight to help carry it out of storage and install it.  At least she didn't argue!

So .... it's time for FMM!!!

Finish the Sentence

I likebeing creative and using my imagination.

I don’t likelousy drivers.

I ama wife & mom (and proud of it!)

I lovemy family and critters.

I dream ofsomeday moving to Arkansas and living in a big old house with lots of room both inside & out.

I wonderwhat my purpose in life is.

I knowsomething you don't !  (but not a good answer for this one!)

I wentto Tim Horton's for breakfast and coffee this morning

I haveplans for Halloween already

I thinkthere is got to be a plan for me (see "I wonder")

I planto get healthier.

I regretnot staying in the Navy.  But then I probably wouldn't have met Randy, so I guess that's OK!

I dowant to get motivated.

I drinka lot of water and can tell when I don't have enough.

I wishRandy would make an attempt to lose weight with me and also to work toward finding a different job (I appreciate that he has a good paying one, but the high-ups are assholes and treat their people like crap)

I ammuch healthier than when I started WW, but I have also become complacent.

I am notat my goal weight yet, but I’ve lost over 50 pounds. I need to find the drive and excitement that I had when I first started WW.

I needto get my butt moving in many aspects of my life.

I hopethat Miss Angela will finally get on the ball with school and show us that she can be the A/B student that all her teachers are sure she can be.  She's going to be a sophomore this year and college is lurking on the horizon!

I wantto make a difference, but I don't know to what or who.

I sometimes…wish I could just work part time so I had the energy to be a better homemaker (I am a morning person and by the time I get home from work in the afternoons, I don't feel like doing anything.  Which means the house is messy and I feel bad when Randy comes home to that.)

I alwaystry to put my hubby & child first.  side note - My sisters were mad that I chose to spend my anniversary alone with my spouse instead of going to see Magic Mike with them.  WTF, peoples?  I would have gone on any other day but not that one.

I canusually see the good side of most situations.  I always keep an open mind and consider new experiences as being an adventure!  I did that a lot while in the Navy.

I cannotwait for vacation this winter!  Buckstaff BathHouse in Hot Springs, here I come!

I willbe the best that I can be!

Friend Makin' Monday - Summertime

Happy Monday!  This was an awesome weekend!  Yesterday was mine & hubby's 6th anniversary so he got us tickets to see Lita Ford / Poison / Def Leppard SQUEEEEEE!!! (sorry, I've loved them since high school!!!)  Saturday night.  The show was phenomenal & the people watching was excellent.
~swoon~

And since this was the Rock of Ages tour, we went Sunday to see the movie Rock of Ages, too!  LOL!

And I'm happy to say that my eating was not terribly crazy.  And I'm sure I wore off some calories with all the dancing I did - and it was an outdoor venue so more got sweated off!

Now, back to the grind.....I'm so glad all the bosses are still out of town until Thursday.

Summertime

1. What is your favorite thing about Summer?  That things seem to be more laid back and relaxed in the summer and the girl spends more time doing fun stuff with her aunts - because apparently Mom & Dad are boring poo-heads.

2. What is your favorite outdoor activity? Swimming.

3. If you had to choose, would you prefer to be too hot or too cold? I can handle the cold better, so cold.  The hubby took the daughter & I to Arkansas one July & we almost melted in that heat.  We looked like soggy messes and the MIL looked so cool in her crisp white cotton top and lavender cotton skirt.  I never saw a wrinkle on that woman - I don't get it!!

4. Does your appetite increase or decrease during warmer months? Decrease.  When I'm hot I don't want to eat.

5. What is your favorite seasonal Summer fruit? Melon in general.  Watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, doesn't matter!

6. Would you prefer to spend a hot summer day at the mall or at a swimming pool?  Can I choose a lake instead?

7. Are you more likely to tan or sunburn? As I sit here with a peeling forehead & nose from the 4th...I burn first then eventually tan.  But it fades quickly because I sit in an office all day!

8. How does your routine change when Summer begins? It doesn't change much.  I have to go in to work later because I need to drop the kid off at summer school and then leave to get her after lunch (which means staying later to make up that time) but other than that - the same.  I got a couple weeks off from doing the dance studio shuttle, but that's back this week.

9. What is the temperature outside where you are today? supposed to be in the lower 80s today and lower humidity than it has been - YAY!!!

10. What is your favorite Summer holiday? I like the 4th of July with the parade & fireworks.  My favorite non-holidays would include my birthday that I share with my sister (she's 13 years older!) and my anniversary.

Now it’s your turn. Don’t forget to post the answers on your own blog, then come back and link up in the comments! Happy Monday, Friends!

Friend Makin' Monday - Quick Questions

Happy Monday!  Wow, this was a lazy weekend!  I think the most productive thing I did besides move the sprinkler around the yard was change the burned out lightbulb in my laundry room.  I stopped at Home Depot on my way home Friday to get what I needed to finish a project and the HD bag is still hanging in the garage.

Anyhooooo - it's that time again!!

FMM: Quick Questions

1. What are your plans for Independence Day? Breakfast at Tim Hortons on the way to my Mom's house to watch the parade with the family.  Then most likely some swimming & a BBQ.  Visiting.

2. What is the last thing interesting thing you drank? Interesting means other than my Strawberry Crystal Lite.....so it would have to be the Electric Lizard I had at Cheeseburger in Paradise last week.  Coconut Rum & Melon Liqeur with a critter made out of fruit.

3. Share on of your favorite quotes. "If you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love someone else?" - RuPaul

4. Name someone or something that makes you smile.  My family.

5. What will you/did you eat for lunch today? Lean Cuisine Shrimp with Angelhair Pasta, some greek yogurt & an orange.

6. What’s the last movie that you watched and enjoyed? Burlesque on DVD with my daughter.  I don't watch a lot of movies, but I wanted to see all of this one.

7. Share something sweet and unexpected that someone did for you recently. Hmm.  I really have to think about that one.

8. If you could spend ten days on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?  I'm odd that I prefer mountians over the beach.  Hubby was telling me about this twisty mountain road near Hot Springs, AR that we're going to drive on when we go there this winter. Can't wait!

9. What are you currently reading? I'm between books.  I haven't read anything new lately, they've all been re-reads.

10. Share at least one thing that you’re looking forward to this week.  Obviously the 4th with all related activities.  We also have tickets to see Def Leppard in concert next weekend - which also means mine & Randy's 6th anniversary!!
