C is for Lt. Colleen Cain

Lt. Colleen Cain, USCG
(1953 - 1982)

Lt. Cain was the Coast Guard's first female helicopter pilot, paving the way for many other hopeful pilots and aviators.

January 7, 1982,  she and her crew responded to a distress call from a fishing boat that was taking on water off the coast of Maui.  Just over an hour later, the Coast Guard last contact with them and later that day, the wreckage of their helo was found in the Hawaiian mountains.

Also lost were Cdr. Buzz Johnson and PO2 David Thompson.

    1. Thanks! At least she was doing what she fought for and loved to do, can't ask for much more than that.
